- Reward Being Offered in Conjunction with Tome Inn Fire
The Bainbridge Development Corporation (BDC) is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fire that occurred on May 6, 2020 at the former Historic Tome School Inn, on the Bainbridge property located in Port Deposit, Maryland. The BDC has been working closely with the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office on the arson investigation and strongly encourages individuals with any pertinent information to contact the Maryland Arson Hotline at 800-492-7529. All tips are kept confidential and are immediately relayed to investigators. At its May 18th meeting, the BDC Board updated the action plan with immediate steps to enhance security measures stressing the importance of safety and security on the Tome Campus. This plan was created with input from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Maryland Historic Trust. The BDC remains strong in its commitment to maintain and redevelop the Tome School Campus. Contact: Toni Sprenkle Bainbridge Development Corporation 748 Jacob Tome Highway 410-378-9200 tsprenkle@bainbridgedev.org The Bainbridge Development Corporation (BDC) regretfully confirms a fire at the Tome Inn on the Historic Tome School for Boys Campus. A local citizen reported smoke coming from the former Naval Training Center at Bainbridge at 11:34 a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 6, 2020. Through the efforts of the members of the Water Witch Volunteer Fire Company and numerous other local volunteer fire companies’ representatives, the fire was contained and did not spread to other areas of the property. One firefighter was taken for evaluation after feeling ill. He was treated and released. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshall Office. Tome School is part of the former Naval Training Site that is currently in the process of redevelopment. The 1200 acre site is within the town limits of Port Deposit. It is regrettable that this building has been severely damaged. The extent of the damage is still undetermined. This is an unfortunate loss to the Town of Port Deposit and Cecil County. The BDC remains dedicated to preserving, maintaining, protecting and restoring to the degree possible the Historic Tome School. The Tome School Campus remains closed to the public and any trespassers caught on the property will be turned over to the authorities. - Department of Planning Finalizes Study of Historic Properties
"Advancing the Preservation and Reuse of Maryland's Historic Complexes." Prepared for The Maryland Department of Planning This Study was mandated by Senate Bill 741 which directed the Secretary of Planning to contract with a consultant to conduct this Study on the adaptive reuse and historic properties located within divested state of federally owned historic complexes. The Study has identified key success factors and primary obstacles to the preservation and redevelopment of historic properties and developed recommendation and an historic resource package of existing, new and improved enticements and programs that could be applied to support projects. - Zoning Change Coming for Bainbridge
PORT DEPOSIT — A public hearing will be held Wednesday night by the planning commission to discuss a proposed change in the zoning designation for the former Bainbridge Naval Training Center property. Port Deposit is making the move to assign the B&I zone to the 1,200-acre former military base, moving away from the BX designation. The planning commission will send its recommendations to the mayor and council, who will hold its own hearing Feb. 18 at the Carriage House and then cast its vote on the changes. CECIL COUNTY — As we head into 2020, we’re closing out the Cecil Whig’s year of reporting and looking ahead to what’s next for our county. Next year, we’re looking forward to more development in the county — we’ll have stories on Bainbridge, Southfields and Great Wolf Lodge, among other things. We’re sure to have a lively election season, as well. Fair Hill International will host its first year as a 5-star event next year. In education, we will have further updates about state funding, and Immaculate Conception is likely closing its doors at the end of the 2019/2020 school year. - BDC Releases Public Update and 2019 Annual Report
The Bainbridge Development Corporation Board of Directors shared a full update on FY19 activities at their annual meeting held yesterday evening. The update included details on prospect activity and the execution of an Environmental Services Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Department of the Navy, valued at over $4 million.
